Airlines serves non veg food to Jain traveller


A leading airlines served non veg food to a passenger who had asked for Jain food.

The complainant filed a complaint asking for written apology and  compensation of Rs.18 Lakhs

for hurting his religions sentiments and  legal expenses of Rs.1 Lakh.

Following the decisions of the Hon’ble State Commission Delhi in FA-2007/820 in the case of Japan

Airlines –Versus- G.L.Aggarwal & Anr., decided on 19th September,

2008 in which  compensation of Rs.5,000/- was awarded;

and the decision in FA-2008/899 in the case of Indian Airlines –Versus- Anil

Kumar Srivastave & Anr., decided on 21st November, 2008 in which compensation of Rs.20,000/- was awarded

The Central Mumbai  Consumer Forum

Directed the airlines to pay Rs.20,000/- (Rs.Twenty Thousand Only) to the complainant as compensation for

hurting religious sentiments and Rs.10,000/- (Rs.Ten Thousand Only) to the complainant as cost of legal expenses.
